A Day's Scavving [Rick Hughes, Goodnight Loving, Murdock - CLOSED]

After the whole candy radroach incident, and its payout, Hughes resolved to keep on picking through the Honolulu ruins. Making his way down to old residential areas, he begins the search for decent gear. beginning at the edge of an old, blasted out apartment complex, Rick hopes his search will lead to enough scrap to get to work tooling up his equipment.

The apartment complex is surprisingly sturdy looking, or what's left of it is. The entire building was pushed over into the next complex over, creating a bridge between the two potential towers of loot. Aside from some minor concrete deformity from the heat of the Nuclear blast centuries ago, the walls are largely intact. This may be on account of the rather heavy duty looking steel beams that ran through the foundation, and up the entire building.

Starting his sweep at the bottom, where the entrance once was, Hughes begins to make his way into the little dungeon, keen to find some pre war cache or decent payout.

Goodnight Loving kept his back to Rick's, his gun pointing at the space behind them ever cautious of what could jump from the shadows. His breathing was harsh and ragged - he didn't like the ruins; didn't trust what lurked inside them, didn't like the idea of the crumbing buildings threating to fall on him at all times, the claustraphobia of it and most importantly it reminded him of the world that once was.
"I don't like this place RIck," he hissed to the man in front "I don't trust it one bit."
He too was hoping for a good payout but his mind was focused on something else. Something other than the looming buildings and what goods he would find in the dungeon. No, instead his pulse was quickening at the thought of ghouls lurking in the shadows. Paralyising with fear as they lurched around the once lit corridors and empty rooms of the buildings. Goodnight, for the first in in a long time, shuddered.

Murdock walked along with hughes, happily munching on a radroach bar. He snagged a few from the pile in the candy factory before they were asked to leave.

He ducked through the doorway to the apartment building and held a bar out to hughes and loving, "Hughes want roach candy? Love? Is good, much better than raw roach."

As the three of you walk down the hallway of the apartments, you notice heads popping out of doors to look at you. You realize that this complex is inhabited, just by humans from what you can tell. As you see the heads look out at you, you suddenly become aware of the sight you're creating: a human, a ghoul, and a mutant. Murdock's crunching is as loud as your footsteps on the concrete.

As you travel farther down the hallway, you notice the amount of heads popping out has decreased drastically and decide to start searching rooms somewhere down here. You come to where the hallway makes a right turn. There's a door on your right that's faded and cracked, and a door on your left that is in equally worn shape. You can also continue down the hallway.

"What's behind door number 1?" Goodnight called and planted his foot on the door right to kick it open, his gun raised above his chest to clear the room if he got it open.

Rick quickdrew his pistol, swinging his aiming arm around the now empty doorway into the room. He quickly follows, aiming down sights at whatever was occupying the room before him. Rick's breach and clear training instantly kicked in as he expertly swept over the room, barking orders as loud as possible.

If nothing else, the sight was intimidating. A six foot man dressed in dead animals and junk, with a half destroyed riot gasmask and helmet, barking orders like a goddamn drill sergeant.
"ALL OF YOU, FACE DOWN HANDS ON YOUR HEADS"

You place your foot in the middle of the door and as soon as it connects the door seems to crumble into little pieces instantly. The debris collects onto the ground and as Goodnight enters the room, he becomes horrified at what he sees. Two decaying bodies have been chained to the ceiling by their wrists. Both bodies have been decapitated and the one on the left is cut in half, the lower part splayed on the floor, guts and blood paint the ground around it. The other body is missing both legs and they can be found in a cooking pot resting on the stove.

The room smells something awful and assaults your noses, singeing Rick's nostril hairs, even through his mask. Goodnight stumbles forward staring at the legs someone had previously attempted to cook. Rick's previous enthusiasm has completely vanished and he gulps at the horror before him.

Both eventually regain their composure and begin looking around the room. From what you can tell, the place is a long abandoned hideout of raiders or perhaps just some cruel individuals. Knives, saws, and other miscellaneous tools are found in various locations around the apartment. Empty needles and Jet containers are strewn about the floor. To your left there is the bathroom that appears disgusting from the front door. Next to it is a closed door which you assume leads to the bedroom.

Murdock is still outside the apartment and is too large to fit through the doorway without breaking the wall.

[Rick and Goodnight suffer 1d10 insanity damage. Murdock can attempt a STR roll to attempt to enter the room.]

Goodnight held back the vomit. The putrid smell rushed to his nose and he waded through it like treacle. Hell, he'd seen a lot of shit over his many years. A lot of bad shit on a lot of bad cases. But never cannabalism.
He shambled over to the closed door, one hand holding his nose the other wafting the air with his gun and raised his foot again, connecting it with the wood of the door.

Murdock isn't fazed. Just some more gore and carnage. From his before time hunting raiders, he'd seen a lot of this, and now as a super mutant, it took a lot to bother him.

Murdock turned to the door on the other side of the hall and opened it. Locked or not. He ducked down and squeezed into the room. (Murdock can still fit through normal doorways. He hes to duck and turn sideways, but he can fit)

Rick did a goddamn double take. He'd never seen this much viscera this close. The soldier just stood there, awestruck at the absolute carnage before him.

"At the rivers of Babylon we sat, yea, we wept... When we remembered Zion..."
He slowly backed away from the room, towards the door, mumbling something about retribution from the father. Hughes slowly shook his head, as he reached the door.

"Lets... Lets try the next floor... Guns hot."

As you attempt to kick the bedroom door down, it doesn't go as well as the front door. The door has a dirty footprint where you planted your foot, but other than that it doesn't reflect that you kicked it at all. Perhaps you might try turning the knob instead.

Murdock enters into the room across the hall from Rick and Goodnight. As you manage to squeeze your hulking frame through the doorway, you notice immediately the two humans laying on the floor in front of you. They stare at you in shock and terror as you stand there looking back at them. You are so distracted by this you only notice the lack of furniture in the room. The couple begins screaming loudly begging and pleading for you not to harm them and to leave.

Rick's terror and spiritual trance is interrupted by the shrieks of horror coming from behind him.

Murdock raises his hands defensively, "sorry, so sorry" backs into the hall, and closes the door.

He looks at rick, "next floor it is."

Hughes immediately snaps out of his daze, turning towards the screaming he walks over to the great green giant. He's honestly dumbfounded that two people would be doing... Whatever that is right across from all that gore. The cogs in his head begin to turn. Rick gripped his pistol tight and aimed at the two, grinding his teeth together.

"You two know what happened to those people across the hall?"
From behind his terrifying, shrapnel filled mask the two people could see the malice in his eyes. Among the sorrows, there is nothing in the world more disturbing, more heinous than eating another human. His old tribal sentiments kicked in, despite his better judgement he felt nothing but white hot rage towards whatever sick person- or thing- did that to those people across the hall.

Flustered by his attempt, Goodnight tries the handle. He has to jiggle a few times due to the stress but he finally manages to get the door open and walks through it, his heart beating in his throat and the sound of blood pumping at his ears so lad, the screams behind sounded a mile away.

Murdock puts one of his giant, dinner plate sized hands on hughes' shoulder and applies gentle pressure away from the couple, "they not cannibals. Murdock hunt raiders. Murdock know cannibal. Look like ghouls in the eyes, but not ghouls. They not cannibals. Come, no help for the dead, we help us."

He gently squeezes hughes' shoulder, shoulder meaning half his chest and upper back. Not hard, but reassuringly.

The master bedroom is extremely dark. The window in the room has been boarded up thoroughly, shredded curtains pulled over it. In fact, the only light in the room is coming from the door you just managed to get open. Feeling rather jumpy, you have a brief moment of panic before you realize that it's your own shadow looming in the doorway. Gulping loudly, you take your first steps into the room. You hear a small splashing sound on your third step into the room. The carpet is squishy and you make sure by taking a few steps in place; the ground splashes each time. Your body is currently blocking most of the light coming through the doorway and you can't see a thing; only faint shadows of what you assume to be furniture. The sound beneath your feet is unsettling, though, and you decide that if you're going to explore this room further, you should create some light.

With Murdock gripping most of Rick's chest, Rick snaps out of his fury. The mutant's hand, although, large and intimidating, seems to have done the trick in calming you down.

"Please don't shoot us! We don't know anything! Please!"
"Leave us alone! We haven't done anything!"

His self-awareness returning, Rick looks at the terrified couple grasping each other tightly on the floor sobbing and begging For him to spare their lives. Rick looks around the room. It's completely empty save for a single mattress the couple are currently sitting on. The ground looks to be sopping wet outside the bathroom door, and you notice the toilet is almost completely broken. Aside from that, the floor is littered with rotting food, bottles, crumpled up napkins, needles, and a couple plates.

It becomes painfully obvious to both Murdock and Rick that these people are innocent. You can feel the helplessness in their voice; their tears are real. They are some of the most broken of mankind. It's clear now that you barged in upon two people who only have each other; although they live in squalor, they are trying to hold onto the only thing they have in this Hell. Rick apologizes to the couple and he and Murdock turn toward the other apartment in which Goodnight still resides.

Rick takes a deep breath, shuts his eyes, and nods once. He turns around, heading towards the stairway, clearing his throat. The soldier begins quietly humming a tune to himself, ain't that a kick in the head. Rick keeps his 9mm drawn as he approaches the stairwell. The smell of mold and rain halfway overpowers the viscera.

"Stairway's still here, goot, let's go. Goodnight! Come on."

Rick begins the slow ascent to the next floor up, careful not to step on any unstable spots. He looks back down to the mutant

"Grab Goodnight and let's keep going, nyeh?"

The commotion behind him is a mile away and Goodnight is almost too scared to flick out the lighter and investigate what's on the floor. Almost. The lighter flicks on, a harsh intake of breath, eyes closed whispering "It's just water Bill, It's just water." It doesn't convince him and at the refreshing sound of the spark igniting the gas he opens his cracked eyelids and look around the room.

As you look around the bedroom, your lighter now illuminating the area, you first look at the ground below you. It lacks the color of blood and there's no sign of any body parts. You let out a heavy sigh of relief. As you do so a drop of liquid brushes the tip of your nose and you look up to see a large dark spot has formed on the ceiling and is steadily leaking drops of liquid onto the carpet below you. You can only guess at what's dripping, but for now you're just satisfied that it's not blood.

You turn your attention now to the rest of the room. In the middle of the room is a pretty standard sized bed covered by a blue comforter with a floral pattern. To your surprise, the bed seems to be neatly made, and as your gaze wanders to the rest of the room, you notice that the whole room seems to be neat and tidy. There are two nightstands, one on each side of the bed that contain two drawers. To your right is the boarded up window, and on your left is a dresser.

Murdock turns and squeezes his heavy frame through the door of the first apartment. He looks around at the carnage before him, unfazed. He calls out to Rick to hang on, and to Goodnight to hurry up. He looks around the room and notices the stove and a fridge.
