Hawai'i was the second most bombarded island, surpassed only by Oahu. Unlike Oahu thought the great island of Hawai'i didn't had as many defensive measures so ultimately many more nuclear bombs fell upon this island. Most if not all the living hubs or military installations were obliterated, even so, the great size of the island let for many people to seek refuge in one of the areas that remained unscathed. One of the damaged military bases had a GECK, the Garden of Eden Creation Kit, a way of bringing life back to a nuclear barren wasteland. The GECK was damaged during the nuclear attack and activated; the jungle it started to create became warped by the radiation and the Enclave, after a failed genocidal campaign on this island, decided to liberate many mutated creatures brought from the mainland onto its surface. The high levels of radioactivity, carnivorous flora, mutant creatures, tribals, raiders and Super-Mutants make this by far the deadliest island.

The Barren Yard is the big town that surrounds The Fortress, what once was a Hawaiian Prison. It is named so because originally the first houses and towns were built in the prison's own yard. Nowadays after centuries both the town and the Fortress have grown in size, so nothing but the name of the Yard remains now. It is the biggest town of Hawaii and the one where most tribals, raiders and pirates of the island aspire to live and work. Violence is commonplace on the town, specially every time one of the members of the High Evolutionary steps on, this happens because every citizen can be elegible to be chosen as a High Evolutionary, and the best way to be considered useful is to prove your combat skills. Barren Yard is controlled by Kunuilakea with a iron fist, his world is law and his presence is almighty. Each year there is a festival celebrating Kunuilakea's rebirth, the day he was transformed into a Super-Mutant. In this festival all of the tribes of Hawaii will meet and leave their conflicts and differences aside to fight together against mutant creatures, the ones who survive will be granted a place to live in Barren Yard. People who already live in the town can also participate on the gladiatorial fights in an attempt at becoming chosen to join the High Evolutionary. There isn't a real rule of law here, the weak fear the strong and anything can be freely sold, including slaves, sexual services, hard chems and nuclear devices.
