Defect of the Character: Psychotic Rage: He kept MOST of his intelligence. During times of intense danger or stress, or while suffering grievous injury, Murdock can lose control and attack wildly. During these periods, he has a chance of attacking any character in the area, be they friend or foe. The only saving grace here is he can feel himself losing it, and try to warn people before he causes too much damge.
Aspirations: Wants to own a large plot of land with a nice home. From here he can build a team to cultivate the land, run missions to help people, and serve as a trade hub to local scavvers. More of a town than a base, but he wants it to be all his.
Other details: Likes to make people laugh. When not in dangerous situations, may act goofy for a giggle or two. Hates raiders, and hates betrayal. Will hunt down anyone who betrays him, no matter how long it takes, or difficult the task. Even if it kills him. Loyal to his friends and comrades above all else, could never even consider betraying them.
Background story: James was a member of the hunters, and with his partner Rawlins, they harassed raiders and brought to justice anyone who thought they could torment the less fortunate. James was an assassin, sneaking in, killing people hand to hand, while Rawlins provided sniper cover. They were a good team, and they always had each other’s backs.
But they pissed off a lot of raiders in their day, and the raiders wanted revenge. They put a massive bounty on the two of them, so high, death squads were always trying to get them. And it wore Rawlins down. See, James did most of the killing, he was really the one they wanted, so, he secretly met with the raiders and arranged for them to get James.
James was cleaning his armor when Rawlins ran in, “James, I finally got a line on Kallikaua..” James jumped to his feet, all the excitement in the world bubbling up in him.
Kallikaua was a raider boss who wiped entire villages off the map. He tortured people, and sold them into slavery. He ate his enemies to strike fear in to them. And James and Rawlins had been dismantling his organization for over a year.
So Rawlins led James to a remote facility. “We can use this complex as a staging area, because he’s hiding in the valley.” But once they were in the center of the complex, no less than 40 raiders emerged from all around them, guns leveled, and Kallikaua walked right up to Rawlins with a sack of caps. “Sorry James, it’s not personal.”
The torture was exquisite. James had never felt that kind of pain in his life. But they didn’t kill him. After a few weeks of this, they sold him to some Super-Mutants. But instead of eating him, like raiders assumed, they turned him with the FEV.
After two days of uncontrollable rage, pounding his fists on the walls, his head began to clear, his soul returned, and he regained his faculties. And began plotting his revenge.
He adopted the name Murdock and ventured into the world. No one knew Rawlins betrayed James, everyone just assumed he got got, the raiders had a Hunter on the payroll now, so they weren’t saying anything, and James was presumed dead, so Rawlins never changed up his safe houses. And that’s where Murdock found him.
After Murdock shattered his limbs, he ate him alive. He felt horrible about that one, but Rawlins had it coming. So he swore he would only eat people that he’d killed in fair combat. More to the point, it would only be those that he fought while trying to protect people. And no more of this eating them alive business, he would kill them, and then harvest their flesh like you would any other animal. His intelligence ran headlong into his new Super-Mutant nature, and he decided to try to be more civilized.
Before he moved on with his new life, Murdock decided to scavenge what he could: a power fist, he made some heavy armor from the collection of armor Rawlins had accumulated, and the pip boy he had taken off a raider boss he killed as a hunter. Now, he was ready to move on.
