Background story:Jiang knew something was terribly wrong when she heard the house guards. The exchange of gunfire and the shouts of the wounded were unmistakable. Her duty to the family was to protect their home, and keep the Springkeeper, her grandmother, safe. Her training dictated that she stay with her grandmother as she wondered what it was that would alert their family’s guards but not the village sentries.
She knew something was terribly wrong when a giant brute, armed with a blade heavy enough to crush stone, tore the door of her home off its hinges. Though her tribe held no great love for the High Evolutionary they payed what respect was due, obeyed what commands they were given. The super mutant, surrounded by his tribal cronies slammed Jiang aside, seizing her grandmother, kicking and screaming.
She lay on the ground, paralyzed with pain, as the Super Mutant took her grandmother, when she realized why the mutants attacked. The High Evolutionary learned of the Black Spring, and the power it bestowed. They had also learned that it was her family that kept its location secret.
She screamed with outrage as they took her grandmother, as well as any hope of the Spring's location being passed on, with them. Many of the tribe’s greatest warriors were those who drank deep from its black waters, gaining physical strength, or insight from those had come before them.
After the attack, the village returned mostly to normal. The other villagers mourned the tragedy that had befallen Jiang’s family, but many of them kept their distance, in fear of a similar fate befalling them. Jiang stewed, wanting desperately to do something, but knowing that she couldn’t. At least, not with the help of the tribe.
She left the tribe without warning, knowing that the road to saving her grandmother and her tribe’s legacy would be fraught with peril. She hoped however, she would not have to walk it alone.
