Psychical Description: Lei has been very sad for a very, very long time. Horrified by the sight of her own face and body, she hides behind a mask and under thick clothing so that no one can see her for what she truly is. In fact, if her voice wasn't ravaged by the radiation, no one would know she was a ghoul. She spends long periods of time away from other sentient creatures such as humans due to her fear of their judgement due to her appearance. She avoids ghouls like herself because they remind her of the eternal hell she lives in.
While she avoids these problems, her constant isolation makes her extremely lonely, only finding solace in pre-war artifacts and whatever few creatures out in the wasteland that don't want to kill her. To escape this, she's turned to chems like Jet and Med-X to make her feel better and temporarily forget about her crippling depression. But the high doesn't last forever and the misery comes flooding back, along with a now mental and physical need for the drug. She lives for the next high, for those brief hours where all her sorrows just melt away to mindless bliss. The only thing besides the chems that make her happy is pre-war artifacts, specifically music. The music reminds her of the days before the war, of her days as a musician, now painful bittersweet memories. But that in turn just drives her to find more ways to forget about her pain.
The chems turn her into a completely different person, the polar opposite of her sober self. All of a sudden, she isn't a 270 year old monster. She feels like a 22 year old woman again.

Other details: Lei isn't sure she likes Hunters. There are a lot of crazy factions in Hawaii, but the Hunters' express purpose is to hunt down abominations and evil. She certainly considers herself to be one of those things. Lei has never been religious and she became positively atheist when the world ended and there was no god in sight. She has a certain affection and sympathy for the monstrosities of the wasteland. So much so that she has adopted a method of communicating with ferals. Lei figures they're even more lost than she is, so it's the least she can do. Whenever she can, she'll avoid killing or harming irradiated creatures.
Lei was a musician before the war about to hit it big, which explains her obsession with pre-war music and musical artifacts.
When Lei gets high, she changes quite a bit. She becomes daring and brave, outgoing and opinionated, and most shockingly, does not give a damn about her appearance. She loses herself in the drug and becomes that fearless young woman again, heedless of anything that might get in her way. Lei is also incredibly obnoxious when she's high.
Background story:Leilani Kelekolio was born in Hawaii in 2055. She was a beautiful, outgoing, and talented girl who grew up into a beautiful, outgoing, and talented woman. Music was her passion and she believed she could end the Great War with her music. The day the bombs fell, she was away from her family, awaiting to get on a plane to LA to talk with a hotshot music exec. Her family never believed humanity would be crazy enough to actually drop the bombs, so they didn't bother with getting a slot in a vault. Neither did she. When she heard the first explosion, it was all she could do to crawl into the sewer to avoid the chaos.
But it was too late. And while those around her died from radiation poisoning, her skin shrunk and twisted and scarred. Her hair began to fall out in patches until only tufts were left. It was a fate worse than death. Those that were still alive reviled her. On the few occasions when she did open up and reveal her true self, she was met with terrified violence. She had nowhere to go, her family was gone, her friends were gone, there was no one for her. No one at all. And so that's how it's been for 250 years.
